Schaefer Haus

The Galveston historic district is filled with incredible architecture and historic homes. Many of its historic mansions, including Schaefer Haus, have been converted into bed and breakfasts. Built in 1899, the mansion survived the great storm of 1900, which destroyed approximately two-thirds of Galveston’s buildings.

Each one of the impeccably decorated bedrooms has a private bathroom. At night, guests slumber in luxurious linens in rooms furnished with antiques, alongside modern conveniences like flat screen televisions. Breakfast may include items like mushroom quiche, French toast and an optional mimosa. Perhaps best of all, you’re within walking distance to the Grand 1894 Opera House, restaurants and attractions of the East End Historic District.

Find it: Schaefer Haus, 511 17th St., Galveston, TX 77550; 409-440-9740

Hilton Galveston Island Resort

Private meeting rooms, event space and a business center make Hilton Galveston Island Resort a favorite among business travelers, but the beachfront location, pool and swim-up bar are equally popular with vacationers. The hotel is a short walk to the beach and a short drive to the Pleasure Pier or historic district. After the day is through, the on-site restaurant and lively lobby lounge provide the perfect place to relax and plan your next adventure.
