On days when my laundry piles up and you couldn’t pay me to cook dinner, I really wish I lived in a hotel. You know, like Eloise or the Sprouse twins. Just think about it: A restaurant right downstairs, a magically made bed every day and the sheer drama of saying you live in a hotel.
Because the odds of that happening are around zero, I usually satisfy my desire for luxury by sprucing up my space. Basically, after lots of intense and very serious research, I’ve concluded that the best way for your home to feel expensive is if it smells expensive. Yes, I am essentially saying that candles can fix all of your problems.
If you’re craving a beach getaway, purchase a candle that smells like the ocean air and make yourself a margarita. If you want that general calming hotel smell, there are options there too. Plus, there’s no need to pay luxury prices. Amazon (our tried and true) can hook you up with life-changing candles for very real-life prices.
I will never tell you not to book that hotel room, friend. While you’re planning, though, peruse some of these magnificent candles and let the getaway vibes come to you.
1. Seda France Pagoda Candle, $31.78
If you’ve been eyeing the ever-popular (and uber-expensive) Diptyque Baies candle, Amazon and TikTok reviewers say that this Seda France option in Peach is basically an exact replica.
2. Lulu Candles No. 14, $19.95
Packaging? Very simple and chic. The jasmine and sandalwood blend? Giving very earthy, very grown-up vibes. And do you see the price?
3. Homesick Beach Cottage Candle, $28.50 (Orig. $34)
Hello, a beach house for $28.50! Don’t forget to throw on a coastal grandmother cardigan to complete the scene.
Word on the street is that this Boy Smells candle will have your place feeling like a fancy New York hotel at Christmastime. That’s upper-echelon luxury, guys.
5. Urban Concepts by DECOCANDLES Fresh Linen Candle, $14.40 (Orig. $16.95)
There’s nothing like that post-turn-down service smell (especially when you can get it for under $15).
6. Sweet Water Decor Weekend Candle, $27.99
One Amazon reviewer said this candle smells like “the windows [are] open on a fall day.” BRB, going to book my New England getaway.
7. LA JOLIE MUSE Lavender Candle, $35.74 (Orig. $41.99)
It’s always 10 times easier for me to fall asleep in a hotel bed, but lavender does the trick at home. Plus, it never hurts to have a candle that looks as scrumptious as it smells.
8. Capri Blue Scented Candle, $34
With notes of tropical fruit and citrus, this Capri Blue candle will have your place smelling like a poolside bar. Well, a posh, relaxing poolside bar. Not a budget spring break in Daytona kind of deal.
